Why it’s Good to be the Mordo (even if he does have to play catch up because he hasn’t been blogging as often as he should.)

I rebooted this blog with every intention of updating it with better regularity and while I am now blogging with more frequency, I must admit that I’ve left a lot of blog worthy events remain unblogged. It’s a shame really, because these said events are awesome. For that reason, I will now attempt to write a few short words about some of them. On a positive note, at least it prevents you from feeling too jealous. Yep, it’s good to be the Mordo.

September 5, 2008 - SMB Oktoberfest

Our awesome friend Juned hooked The Sexynomad and I with media passes to the massive event which allowed us access to the entire venue. This included a special media section where a free buffet and free drinks awaited us. More importantly, we were able to get seats right in front of the main stage. There, we got to watch The Overtones, who were surprisingly good and Taken by Cars, who were awkward but entertaining. Then we got to have our faces rocked off by the new Rivermaya. Trust me on this, new Rivermaya + old Rivermaya songs = face blasting awesomeness! Next up on were The Bloomfields who did not seem to understand that they were just an opening act and overstayed their welcome on stage with a ridiculously long set that was, quite frankly, not even very good. Thankfully, they were followed by The Out of Body Special who easily got the crowd’s energy levels back up. Their set was short and sweet and honestly could have stood to be a bit longer. But they understood perfectly that the audience could hardly wait for the main act. And what a main act it was! Third Eye Blind just blew me away. All I can say is you really should have been there. To round off the evening, Jen and I tried out the limited edition Oktoberfest San Miguel Pale Pilsen. I liked it, full bodied with sweet undertones, but I prefer San Miguel All Malt Premium Brew which is crisper and packs more of a kick. Jen and I only stayed until around 2:00AM but we had an amazing time.

September 6, 2008 - Wordcamp Philippines

Nursing a slight hangover, I arrived at the College of Saint Benilde at a quarter past noon because I had trouble hauling my ass out of bed. But this was Wordcamp! The first one ever in Southeast Asia! It’s simply something I could not miss. Besides, looking at the photographic evidence, It’s undeniable that even The Mordo is gay for Mr. Wordpress himself, Matt Mullenweg!

I was really glad I was able to catch his State of the Word address. It was also the first time Matt gave a live demo of the WP 2.7 release, codenamed “CrazyHorse” which features better security, improved auto-plugin installation, sticky posts and more!

Again, congratulations to the organizers, the Mindanao Bloggers, the sponsors and the volunteers for making this happen. I’m already looking forward to Wordcamp Philippines 2009.

September 13 -14, 2008 - Clubbing

I know what you’re thinking. "Clubbing? Isn’t that cruel and inhuman punishment for The Mordo?" I admit, this isn’t my scene. I’m far more at home in a cozy bar chilling to 90’s grunge while drinking an ice cold beer that isn’t ridiculously overpriced than a club filled with barely legal hotties wearing barely there skirts. That said though, it doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate such places. You’d be surprised to learn that I’m pretty smooth on the dance floor. Also, it’s damn impossible not to enjoy myself in the company of these lovely ladies:

So we hit Embassy at the Fort first. There where the skirts are shortest and dancing was really more an afterthought to possibly finding someone to have a meaningful overnight relationship with. Less than 10 minutes after we got to the dance floor, there were already several guys hitting on my women. One guy couldn’t keep his hands off my wife’s bare back. I can’t say I blame him though because my wife’s really hot. No one hit on me of course because let’s face facts here. I look like a bouncer. After an hour or so, we moved the party to Fiama along Jupiter street in Makati. It was a little more relaxed but the music was good and the people were beautiful so we stayed a bit. After some time we headed to Yakal street and found ourselves in Warehouse 135 which I have to say played the best music among the three clubs we went to. The dancing went on for I don’t know how long and by around 4:30AM, I suggested we head over to Tagaytay for breakfast. Soon, we were in Josephines, where we filled ourselves on their scrumptious buffet. For a better account of this awesome night and loads more photos click here.

September 20 to 22, 2008 - Boracay in Sepia

So the wife and I were in Boracay again and although it was a little overcast it was still breathtakingly beautiful. This deserves a whole post of its own really and I’m actually working on that very soon but I wanted to leave you folks with a bit of a teaser, some photos, unfiltered and completely unedited, that showcases the quality of the light during our weekend there.

So yeah, I’ve been having a great month and there’s a lot more I didn’t even try to fit in here. How’s your September going so far?
