Walrus 3.0

Happy Halloween folks!

October 31, 2007

Last weekend saw us throwing a Halloween party over at our new house which was, if I may say so myself, quite a success. You can read more and see pictures over Jen's blog.

So we're in for a long weekend and I am certain that even as I type this, the roads slowly transform into the real monsters of this season. Few things rival the horror story that is the traffic we must endure during the 31st of November.  Speaking of horror stories though, I'd like to share this story, originally written for and published in the Manila Times.

Random Ramblings: About being able to see and communicate with spirits

Yes. You read that right. Since I was 5, I’ve had the ability to communicate with spirits. And I don’t mean the kind of spirits that’s poured out of a bottle and provides the perfect excuse for why I was found by my neighbor’s 8-year-old daughter sleeping naked in their yard again. I actually mean the otherworldly, supernatural kind. While a surprising number of people who learn this about me think it’s cool, I feel that this is more a curse than it is a gift. I mean, if I must live with having second sight then it would have been a heck of a lot better to be able to see the future. That way I could win the lottery two or three times a year and live a morally questionable but undeniably enjoyable life. But no. Instead, I see  spirits of dead people as well as a few that were never even people in the first place.  Whoopdeedoo! Talk about getting the short end of the psychic stick.

A lot of these ghosts tend to be annoying, particularly if they’ve caught on that they’re dead and that I can actually see and hear them. For example, a few weeks ago I was followed around by the spirit of an old lady who would constantly whisper in my ear, ‘Pahiram ng katawan. Isang gabi lang. Hahanapin ko lang ang anak ko.’ (May I borrow your body? Just for a night. I just want to find my child.) Judging by her clothes, she passed away before Jose Rizal did, which would mean that chances were pretty high that her kid was also dead and that lending her my body would be nothing more than an exercise in futility. I tried my best to ignore her but 4 nights of sleep deprivation forced me to scream at her and say that her son was just as dead as she was. I had to endure 2 more sleepless nights as she cried at my bedside. What an insensitive bitch. Sadly, this is only one of many such stories. I’d tell you more, but I need to deal with this Japanese guy shouting obscenities at me through my window. Oh he’s not a ghost. Worse, it’s my neighbor.

So there. I just thought I'd leave you with a little something before I once again disappear from the face of the blogosphere. I plan to veg out and spend a considerable amount of time in meatspace. I'm going to really enjoy my weekend. I hope you guys do too! Blog on!

Who I am

Hi. I'm Adam Mordo, the Human Walrus. As such, I have a natural affinity for water. Needless to say, I love the ocean and I'm crazy about the beach! Just give me sand, surf and beautiful weather and I'm happy as a clam. I'm a frustrated writer, an amateur photographer, a wannabe surfer and washed up fencer. I'm a hard worker (at least my boss thinks so) a good friend (as my friends would say...well I made them say that but...) and a business mogul in training (mwehehehe). I believe that normalcy is boring but I accept that it is a neccesary evil. I believe that friendship is stronger than distance, that fact is stranger than fiction and that imagination is more powerful than knowledge. I believe that happiness is, more than anything else, a choice. And as cheesy as it may sound, I still believe that love conquers all.
